Coordination and Governance in Decentralized Protocols: Experimental Evidence

Abstract

How do participants coordinate on governance decisions in decentralized protocols? We design a laboratory experiment based on a stylized DAO governance model where subjects vote on protocol upgrades with heterogeneous preferences. We study how token-weighted voting, delegation, and quorum requirements affect coordination efficiency and minority protection.
